To be eligible for membership in the Upsilon, one must be an officially enrolled student or recognized faculty member at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Manila or Los Banos.
Applying for the Upsilon is usually by invitation, although walk-in applications may be accepted if a resident Upsilonian agrees to sponsor the application.
Generally, those invited to apply have either achieved exceptional accomplishments in their field of concentration or have shown remarkable potential for future achievement. Essentially, a prospective applicant must fit one simple yet important criterion: he must be an upright, self-respecting man capable of growth and greater service to others.
